Objective: To provide safe drinking water for children in the orphanage
Background: The community is near a mission and attracts people seeking refuge. There are also a number of single parents in the village and children left orphans due to HIV/AIDS. Sr. M. Agnes is headmistress of the kindergarten. The orphans are helped to acquire free education and are given food, uniforms and medication. The children are all enrolled in local schools but before going to their lessons, they have to fetch water which is essential for preparing food, washing clothes and essential hygiene of the children. The community who care for the orphans are requesting funding to build three wells basically to solve the problems of (i) unsafe water, (ii) poor living conditions due to unclean and unsafe water which could lead to sickness and diseases such as typhoid and malaria, and (iii) time spent queuing at wells before being able to go to school. The children have been sensitized to the problem of lack of water. The beneficiaries will be responsible for supervision and continuity of the project.
Use of Funds: The funds will be used to construct three 8000 litre water tanks and construction materials for the base of each tank. Labour will be provided by the requesting group.
