Objective: To provide and install one power generator (pump) to transport water from a well to the nursery school
Background: The mission in Madagascar was opened in 2003 by three sisters of the Istituto Pie Operaie, two Italians and one native of Madagascar. It is located in the village of Ambaiboho, in the area of Morarano Chrome, 50 Km north of Ambatondreazaka which is 50 Km from the capital Antananarivo. After their arrival the sisters have worked for the construction of the house and the school (funded by various donors in Rome). Two wells have already been dug to water the market garden where people learn how to cultivate vegetables. Expectant mothers in difficulty and undernourished newborn babies are assisted, also teaching the mothers alternative cooking. The Nuns of the religious community take care of the education of the children of the nursery (currently 65), assisted also through a “MILK PROJECT” for morning and afternoon snacks (the project is supported by various benefactors, students and friends of the institute’s school in Rome). The opening of a primary school is in preparation.
Use of Funds: The funds will be used to provide and install one power generator to transport water from a well to the nursery school run by the nuns and to the building where young girls of the village carry out various activities (needlework, sewing and studying). The generator will also facilitate the irrigation of a market garden where various products are cultivated and will also make available drinking water for the needs of the community.
