Project development type Agriculture Production
Name of Requesting Association Groupement des Producteurs Mara^ichers de Darou Fall
Objective: To generate income and reduce hardship for rural women through the mechanization of peanut processing
Background: The Groupement des producteurs maraîchers de Darou Fall is a community-based organization (CBO) created by the women farmers themselves. These women cultivate peanuts and manually crush them to extract the oil, which is a long and difficult process.
Use of Funds: The demand for peanut oil in the surrounding villages cannot be met at the moment. The women therefore want to purchase a mill to crush the peanuts and three (03) oil presses to extract the oil.The group will be able to process its peanut harvest and generate more income. They will also be able to charge a fee for other producers to use the machines. Mainly, they will save considerable time from the manual process allowing them to engage in other income-generating activities and further develop their village. It is expected that their income will increase by 60% through this project.Training will be provided on the use and maintenance of the machines and equipment (not covered by the 1% Fund). The costs of maintenance and fuel will be covered by the users’ fees. The group has already secured some funding to build a shelter for the equipment and will provide the manpower for the construction. The land for the construction of the shelter is owned by the group.
